There are four simple steps for lower back pain relief. However, fail to complete all four steps and you will only ever get temporary relief. Why?

Unless you remove both the symptoms and the cause of your pain, it will return.

In fact, the latest statistics point out that only 25% of those in pain now will be pain free in one year. The rest are worse or just the same. The reason is simple enough…

If all you do is remove symptoms only, whether it is through medication or other means, you will only get short term results.

The solution is to make sure you use all four steps. So what are these miraculous four steps?

The first step is no miracle or secret. You must first find the cause of your pain. This is not how you lift or bend, it is the various distortion patterns that twist and distort your spine.

These distortion patterns allow joints and muscles to function poorly. As a result the muscles tire and then tighten which creates pain.

Which is why the second step is essential, which is removing pain. Symptom relief is the second step, yet you will see many people say “don’t fix symptoms, fix the cause”.

However, I’ve seldom found anyone that wants to remain in pain for longer than they should. Symptom relief will ease your pain and is a vital step. If pain has eased, dealing with the underlying causes out of pain is a more enjoyable prospect.

Symptom relief can occur within minutes if you use certain techniques. You can literally turn off the pain signals and feel so much better. But you must NEVER stop there. This is where most people stop and the reason why the back pain statistics are so poor.

Lower back pain relief is a four step process, not a two step wish and prayer.

The third step is balancing muscles. This means relaxing those muscles that are tight and stimulating those that are weak. Weak and tired muscles will tighten, which is why muscle balancing is important.

To strengthen a muscle you still need to exercise it (although there are certain types of stretches that both relax and strengthen the muscle at the same time), as well as stimulate the nerve and blood supply to the muscle.

Unless you improve the function of the muscle (which relates to its nerve and blood supply) then you will find the muscle continually tires and tightens.

The final step is balancing joints. This is part of the muscle balancing also as all muscles attach into joints. The pelvis is the key to joint balancing as the pelvis is the foundation of your spine.

Lower back pain relief will not occur unless your pelvis is in balance. This is the one area that if left untreated will recreate the muscle imbalances.

These four simple steps if used together will give you long lasting relief. Too many people suffer with low back pain needlessly.

But unless you address all the causes, pain will remain.

Lower back pain relief is a simple and quick process – find the cause, ease your pain, balance your muscles and joints. Then you will have long lasting relief for back pain

You may have heard the saying that opposites attract. In back pain relief the same concept applies. Let me explain…

When you walk your right arm moves forward at the same time as your left leg. Imagine having to walk with your right arm and leg moving forward at the same time. Try it - you feel awkward and uncomfortable.

After a period of time your muscles will tire as they are not used as they are designed. At times they will tire within minutes. As the muscles tire they tighten and pain develops.

An unbalanced motion is highly stressful on your body.

What has this got to do with back pain relief?

Well, your spine works in the same fashion. Your lower back is moving in conjunction with your upper neck. Your pelvis moves forward on the left as your right shoulder moves forward.

If you have lower back pain, there may also be some disturbance in your neck. If you have pain to the side of your spine lower down (called Sacro-Iliac pain) then you may find your opposite shoulder is not working well.

So when you look to finding the causes of your pain, you need to look further away than just the area of pain.

The areas that you now have pain in, may have been caused by an unbalanced motion in your spine that tires the muscles and creates the pain you have now. The area of pain may not be the only cause.

A common reason why pain struggles to disappear is that although the pain may be centered around your lower back, unless you remove some neck or shoulder tension, it just won’t settle down properly.

What does this mean for your own personal back pain relief regime?

Check muscle tightness in your entire body. It is simple to do initially. Just stretch all the muscles in your upper and lower body and assess which are tight. Stretch those muscles no matter where you have pain.

It is also best to also balance the joints the same way, you need to assess the entire spine including your pelvis. If you have lower back pain, rub your neck and see if you feel any tender spots.

If you have Sacro-Iliac pain rub your opposite shoulder joint and notice if there is pain around the joint.

If so, then you need to look at more than just the site of pain.

Symptom relief is easy, you look at the area of pain, work on some trigger points, stretch a few muscles, and strengthen a couple of weaker muscles and pain eases.

Then it returns…

If you find you are struggling with recurring or chronic back pain then you need to look away from the actual area of pain.

Think of the opposites, back pain relief will remain temporary relief unless you remove all the factors causing it. This may sound like a hard or complicated task, but in most cases a few simple techniques performed once will eliminate the majority of issues.

Don’t be fooled into just looking at the site of pain, even simply checking the areas that move in conjunction with the site of pain can reveal many hidden causes that are easy to correct.

Long lasting back pain relief is a simple process - find the cause, remove symptoms, balance muscles and joints (in your entire body) and finally train your body to stay pain free.

Firstly, back pain relief requires a multi-faceted approach if you want long lasting results. You must balance your muscles and joints, break the habitual pain cycle and learn to prevent pain returning.

However, Acupressure is a useful tool and will help you achieve the above.

But here is some confusion. Acupressure has many different forms, no different to medicine.

If you went to hospital and asked to see a Doctor. It could take you ten attempts before you found the “type” of Doctor you wished to see. They may have sent out an orthopedic surgeon when all you wanted was a cardio-vascular specialist.

The same applies to Acupressure. There are many different types of Acupressure, the most common is where you press or rub points firmly to ease pain. You may know if the point at the base of your thumb that people rub for pain relief whether it is back pain relief or headache relief.

There are also forms of Acupressure that use light touch, similar to jumper cabling a battery. These are older forms of Acupressure and the concept behind these is for your body to return to balance naturally, using your body’s internal ability to heal.

Acupressure looks at your body as having a series of energy channels running through it. If one or more of these channels becomes blocked, tension builds. No different to a river that suddenly has a dam placed in it.

The dam causes the river to flood above and the river below becomes dry. With meridians (the energy channels) you get many symptoms from one blockage.

This is why you can have back pain and note you feel bloated, constipated, tired, or many other symptoms. They are all part of that one blockage.

This is why so many people fail trying to relieve back aches. The blockages may cause muscles to tire or tighten, you may stretch and exercise these and get temporary relief. But unless you remove the blockage these will return.

This is why back pan relief requires a multi-faceted approach. You must balance muscles and joints, make sure your body is working well and break the habitual pain cycle.

Acupressure will help in this process if you use it as part of an overall approach. So to answer the question…

But does Acupressure work for back pain relief?

Yes, it has worked for many centuries and still works today. The firmer types of Acupressure are still more symptom related, but the softer forms work on points that help the underlying factors ease and disappear.

Only relying on a few stretches or exercise will only ever give you temporary relief. To make sure your back pain disappears long term, you need to look at all the factors causing it.

Acupressure is a great tool to help remove the causes that stretches and exercise won’t fix. Back pain relief will occur quicker and for longer if you add in Acupressure.

I suppose the obvious reasons why you should relieve back pain jump right out at you. After all who wants to be in pain?

But there is a problem…

Most people only ever do precisely that. They relieve back pain and then decide that is enough.

The reason you decided to ease your pain was to remove the pain that stops you enjoying your day to day life. You would rather be exercising, playing with your family or just being able to do your daily work without pain.

Yet as soon as pain eases, the majority of people stop there. They don’t carry on making sure all the underlying causes have gone. Why would you?

Surely working on the underlying factors takes hours in your day, takes months or years to change, you just don’t have the time or patience. Who would?

Did you know you’ve been misinformed though?

Removing all the causes of your back pain does not take much time at all. You only need to spend a few minutes each day to remove them and once new better habits have formed, you only need to check your body monthly to make sure things are still in balance.

The underlying issues are simply a few muscle and joint imbalances, you may have some daily stresses that tighten your muscles, possibly you’re more tired than you should be and a few other minor issues.

But look at it this way…

If you only ever relieve back pain, your future will be filled with pain. As time goes by the underlying issues will increase in number and severity. Pain will occur more frequently, be harder to correct and the repetitive episodes of pain will become more severe.

Prevention is just an investment. A few minutes each day for a week or two, then a few minutes each month to maintain a good healthy spine and you can look forward to years of pain free living.

But the one area that most people always forget to learn is not how to remove these underlying issues, but knowing what and where they are.

Unless you can assess your muscles and joints for imbalances you won’t know what the “true” cause is. You may only ever end up chasing symptoms. A few stretches and exercise will not remove all the physical causes.

Releasing stress is easy if you know simple techniques that take literally seconds to use. There are many simple natural techniques to build your health that you can do while relaxing watching TV. Exercise becomes normal as pain eases, energy levels rise and you feel great.

Don’t just relieve back pain, make sure you remove and eliminate it permanently. You will then lead a life free of pain now and

When you look at finally getting back pain relief, how does it make you feel? Can you actually imagine being pain free?

The secret to getting long term back pain relief is precisely that. Feeling good now, imagining the feelings you will have when you are able to perform all the activities you once did.

Being able to enjoy life with those you cherish most. Playing sport not watching it from the sidelines. Going for a walk because you want to not because it is supposedly good for your back.

Just think how you will feel when you can put in a full days work, come home play sport, enjoy the games with your children or your friends and still be completely pain free.

And not just pain free. Not ever thinking about your back and how painful it was. Having the 100% confidence that you can do anything at all and not ever have even a twinge of pain.

Can you imagine that?

Now don’t get me wrong, this is not some new age funk that tells you to sit on a mountain top for hours on end, to meditate your pain away or start eating bean sprouts even.

You still need to work on the various muscle and joint imbalances. There will be some physical techniques you need to use to make sure you can start this process. You may even need to do some exercise to help get your joints moving.

But one of the simplest things you can do now is hook into those feelings of being pain free and healthy.

You don’t even need to do this for 24 hours a day, not even 12 hours…

In fact if you can spend just 60 seconds hooking into the feeling of being healthy and having no pain at all. How it will make you feel and hold that thought in your mind for 60 seconds.

Even better, if you do this 10 times each day you will find you have an amazing ability to attract this situation. You are training your mind and body to accept this as the NORMAL way of life.

It will help to change the cellular, muscular and inherent internal memories of your pain to one of being pain free. It allows the healing process to work faster and more efficiently.

Back pain relief is not just a physical process, it is a mental process also.

Think of all the goals you have had in the past. To achieve them the first action you took was to think of a solution, to hold this in your mind so a process could follow.

The same applies with your back pain. If you think of your goal of being pain free, hold that thought in your mind, care for like you would a child and repeat this often, you will achieve your goal.

All it takes is 60 seconds, ten times each day, adding in some simple back pain relief techniques and you will lead a life you can only imagine now. But imagining it will allow it to happen.

One of the common questions I get asked is “is there a back pain cure?” To answer this is not that easy.

Sure you can remove back pain easily through various techniques that rebalance your muscles and joints as well as improve your body’s ability to heal. But will these cure back pain?

Cure after all is a very big goal.

Will you never suffer again? Will your spine be immune to all the stresses and pressure you place on it if you use some magical technique? Can you become almost super human and not injure yourself through falls, bumps and scrapes?

I assume you can see the answer to all of these. A back pain cure is not a reachable goal if you plan to remove your back pain now and then do nothing further.

If you want to attempt to stay pain free then you need to continually improve your spine and the muscles that support it.

Does this mean spending countless hours every day doing exercises?

No. It means being able to regularly assess and reassess your spine to make sure it remains in balance. If it becomes out of balance then you need to act then and not wait until pain arrives.

Pain is a signal that your spine has become out of balance enough to warrant attention. Pain is just your internal fire alarm.

If you want a long term back pain cure, then you need to build continual strength in your spine. You must train your body to become pain free and stimulate your body to heal optimally.

This requires you to look after your body on a regular basis. But all you need is a few minutes of time each week to make sure your muscles are not too tight, that they have good strength and that your pelvis is balanced and no distortion patterns exist. Learning some simple Acupressure techniques helps you to give your body a good boost to make sure it heals well.

The main technique is not a healing technique, you need to be able to assess the balances in your spine and pelvis. If you can detect problems before pain develops then you will have a back pain cure.

You will be able to remove pain before it occurs and with time you will find you become fit and stronger and it becomes easier and easier to prevent pain.

So is there such as thing as a back pain cure? Yes, but it is not one technique. It is not relying on pain as the only signal to tell you your spine is out of balance. It is knowing to assess the balances regularly and to act early to make sure pain never develops.

Then you have a back pain cure.

There are many ways to cure back pain, you’ve seen them on the internet constantly. Every web site, practitioner or guru is going on how easy it is to relive back pain and allow you to return to all the activities you once did.

But is it that easy?

The statistics say after all, that over 80% of adult suffer with pain at some stage. That only 25% of those in pain now will be pain free in one year - the rest are the same or worse off.

So are all these people wrong, can they really cure back pain?

To understand the concept of a cure, you need to look at what a “permanent” cure means. Long-term relief of back pain means precisely that. Long term freedom from pain.

You are able to perform a full day’s work, enjoy your leisure time with friends and family and not feel any ill-effects from doing so. There is no back pain, no ache or any discomfort.

Sure if you have a fall or push your body too hard then it will react and back pain will develop. But this goes into the area of common sense.

To cure back pain therefore means to make sure your spine and its’ muscles are working correctly. That they are able to do all the daily tasks you ask your body to perform and then at the end of the day still feel great.

It may sound good, but is it possible.

The simple answer is yes, only if you make sure all the causes of your back pain have been eliminated. This is why so many techniques fail…

They only address a few areas and then hope pain eases. Long term you must continue with the exercises or pain returns without any reason.

There are many people in the world who suffer with no back pain at all (actually 20% of the adult population if the statistics are correct).

These people do not stretch or exercise, they don’t necessarily belong to gym’s either. Yet they remain pain free. It is because their body, especially their spine and the muscles that support it, are working correctly.

To have long term back pain relief, you must therefore remove all the causes.

You must:

- strengthen weak muscles

- get joints moving and in balance

- make sure your body heals and recovers from injury quickly and easily

Do all these and you will cure back pain long term. If you only rely on a few stretches or exercises then pain will return and you will end up chasing your symptoms for many years to come.

Back pain relief is an easy process, you can learn to help your pain at home and learn many simple ways to balance both your muscles and joints. You need to learn how to improve your body’s ability it heal and recover - which is the only way to make sure you have long lasting success.

If your body works well then you are able to be like those 20% of adults who never suffer with pain. Their system is in good working order and their body learns to remain pain free.

Can you cure back pain … yes. As long as you remove all the causes of your pain.

This is a common question for those who have struggled with back pain relief. You may have tried a few different techniques or even seen a practitioner or two, yet your back pain remains.

Why?

The reason why relief is slow or the results are poor is very simple.

To get long lasting back pain relief you must do at least 2 essential steps … and these have nothing to do with your muscles or joints.

Most people know that you need to balance your muscles and get joints moving to get relief from back pain. These steps are obvious although there are still simple and effective ways to achieve results … and some less effective ways.

But the two most essential steps are not related to either of these.

The first step is the most vital. You must find the ‘true’ cause of your pain. This is not how you lift or bend, it is not related to falls or injuries.

You may have heard of the various distortion patterns that twist your spine and lead to back or neck pain …

The true cause is the patterns that form that allow pain to develop … and then become a habit. Once back pain has occurred for a period of time, it becomes a habit.

Once pain is habitual your body believes this to be a normal way of life for you. Your body will stop trying to correct your back issues and only deal with any acute flare-ups … and not remove all the factors causing your pain.

These distortion patterns will develop over time and become a ‘normal’ occurrence

How can you detect if you have these habitual patterns?

Simple… by checking which muscles are tight and various postural clues you will see a pattern emerging. Certain muscles on one side will be tighter than their opposites. You will see shoulder height changes along with pelvic height changes.

Your body will seem twisted and you may even notice one leg appears shorter than the other.

All of these indicate that both these patterns have developed and they are now a habit.

The second step essential step that most miss is also related to these habitual processes.

Unless you train your body to become pain free, your back pain relief efforts will only deliver short term results.

To remove these patterns, to relax muscles and get joints moving well, you must train them to do so.

Most people use techniques or see practitioners ONLY until pain eases. You assume that as pain has eased all the issues have miraculously disappeared … they haven’t.

You stop using the techniques and with time pain returns.

To get long lasting back pain relief you must keep using techniques until the patterns have disappeared and remained that way until new improved habits have formed.

Learning to assess which patterns you have is therefore essential not lonely to remove pain and find the cause … but to make sure you train your body to remain pain free.

Back pain relief is a simple process if you incorporate thee two vital steps.

Christmas is fast approaching and if you are in pain, the festive season does not look a happy prospect. Pain can ruin a good time for most, for you and those around you.

If you want back pain relief between now and the day Santa comes down your chimney, then there are a few steps you must take.

The first step is obvious, you need to work out what actually causes your pain. This is not how you lift or bend, but the distortion patterns that exist in your spine that allow pain to develop.

These distortion patterns are caused by muscular and joint imbalances that occur from the many micro-injuries that occur every day.

Once you find which pattern you have, the next step is to remove it. You can only remove these patterns by addressing each cause individually.

You must release trigger points which can cause 75% of your pain and by doing this you can get almost instant relief from pain. Trigger points are only symptomatic relief, they are not the true cause of your pain.

Next you need to balance your muscles and joints. This is achieved by using simple and easy techniques at home to realign your spine and getting muscles back into balance.

Balancing muscles requires you to stretch muscles that are tight, stimulate the nerve and blood supply and strengthen muscles that re weakened. Strange thing is that most muscles that are tight are also weak.

This is a common reason why so many back pain relief attempts fail. Because the muscle is tight, people stretch it and forget to improve the strength also.

When a muscle tires out it will tighten up, so the muscle is commonly weak first and then will tighten. Only stretching the muscle will only correct half the cause.

Joint balancing is just as important, especially making sure the pelvis is balanced. Your pelvis is the foundation of your spine and if out of balance allows many other joints and muscles to struggle.

Once you balance muscles and joints you still then need to break the habitual nature of pain. If pain has been present for a period of time, balancing muscles and joint swill only give you temporary relief.

You need to train your body to become pain free and stay that way. Breaking habits is easy it just take a small amount of time and minimal effort (if any effort at all).

The final step is always the most important and the one that most never take…

It is also the easiest step yet the hardest also. It is taking action…

So many people know they should remove their back pain, that back pain relief is easy to achieve, but don’t act.

There is no point reading all the information on the internet and still do nothing. If you do nothing your back pain will remain. You need to act, learn simple and easy ways to remove pain and then look forward to a Christmas being pain free.

Back pain relief is not rocket science. You need to find the cause, balance muscles and joints, break habits and take action and learn techniques to help yourself.

Here’s an article I wrote recently …

It helps you understand the importance of looking away from just where your pain is…

When you read this title on back pain relief, the first thing that jumps into most minds is working on muscles and possibly joints.

The last thing is looking at your feet…

Why?

Most people believe that because pain is located in your spine, which is where the problems lie. Although this is NOT correct, it is also not your fault to think this way.

Most therapies (medical and non-medical) tell you constantly that your pain is where your problem is. That it must be the joint or muscle in that region – they are tight and sore and hence that is why pain is occurring.

In one way they are right – there will be local tightness of muscles and joints that create your pain – but this is NOT the only area of concern.

Your spine works as an entire system. Just think of how you walk – your left leg and right arm move in unison. When you bend to touch your toes – all your spine moves. The same with all movement…

So when you have pain (no matter where it is) it surely is an entire structural system event … that starts in your toes and finishes at the top of your head.

This is why the back pain relief statistics are so poor ….

Did you know only 25% of those in pain now will be pain free in one year. The rest are worse or just the same as you are now.

The reason this is poor is most practitioners and self-help gurus only look at your pain as segmental… only looking at the area of pain … only looking at muscular balances … only looking at joints.

There are not many that look at the entire system … and very few that look at your feet.

Why do I mention feet?

Your feet are the link from you to the ground. If they work correctly and the proprioception responses (your position in space sense) are operating … your balance is better and your spine in more alignment.

There is a simple way to test if your feet are working and these neural senses working well.

Simply stand on with feet shoulder width apart and then raise one leg so your foot is off the ground and about knee height. Then close your eyes …

You should be able to stand there with eyes closed for at least 30 seconds without wobbling too much or falling over. Then repeat this for the other foot.

You should also be the same on both feet…

If you find you can’t stand for 30 seconds or if one foot is a lot worse than the other … you have a foot-brain balance issue and there will be both joints and muscles in your spine out of balance.

A simple test that helps with your back pain relief efforts … to look at all the causes of your pain.

If you want complete back pain relief you must remove all the causes of your pain.
