Sciatica cures… you see them all over the internet, but which ones actually work? Most of you obviously have a major goal of being pain free. I’m sure most of you also want to stay that way – who wants their sciatica to return again in a few months? Nobody.

So you search on the internet for “sciatica cures”, the results come back as 642,000 web pages. Wow! That’s a lot to go through isn’t it?

If you are going to whittle them down to find only the best sciatica cures, what do you look for? You need to know what causes sciatica to know which sciatica cures will work effectively.

The main causes of sciatica are:

Piriformis Muscle Tightness – the Piriformis muscle ahs the sciatic nerve running through it or next to it. If this muscle tightens sciatica is common. Stretches for the Piriformis are essential to remove sciatica.

Hip Flexor Tightness – the Hip Flexors help to keep the curve in your lower back, if tight the curve increases placing strain on your lower back joints. Stretching again is the best approach.

The other muscles that need addressing are your Erector Spinae (low back muscles), Hamstrings and Gluteals. Most stretching packages will cover all these muscles.

Please remember, it is not what to stretch that is important, knowing how and when to stretch is the most important factor in a stretching routine.

Joint Disruption – the sciatic nerve is formed by the lower 5 nerve roots (the nerves leaving the spine). If any or all of these joints fail to move correctly then the nerve roots become irritated, also muscles will tighten and allow sciatica to occur.

Pelvic Imbalance – if your pelvis is out of balance, joints will move incorrectly, the Piriformis muscle will tighten as will the other muscles around your lower back. This is the most common cause of all back pain including sciatica.

These are the main and most likely causes of sciatica. Sciatica cures need to cover all of these, if you want to remove and prevent your sciatica.

However, you may be asking “what about disc injuries?”

Yes disc injuries will cause sciatica, however statistics show that this is the least common cause of sciatica. But for the sake of completeness, the ideal sciatica cures will incorporate disc techniques as well. You can actually help discs to heal, there is one precaution – with discs you still are best to seek advice also. You can still use self help techniques while seeking treatment from any practitioner of your choosing. The techniques will speed your recovery and aid the treatment you are seeking.
