It still amazes me that so many practitioners make this neck pain mistake. For you the public it is obvious why, as you have never been told the full story.
Neck pain is increasing, it is also an area that tends to be hard to remove and returns often. Some people end up living with neck pain for years, searching for ways to help target the neck and relieve at least some pain.
However, the search is fruitless and the results are dreadful. Why?
There is one huge mistake made with neck pain relief. Most practitioners only look at your neck. Yet your neck is influenced by so many other factors.
Did you know that your neck pain is caused as much by lower back issues than it is neck ones?
Did you know the most common cause of neck pain is actually your upper back?
Neck pain is debilitating, it can cause headaches, nausea and make you feel fatigued and generally foggy with your thinking. You struggle to look behind you to drive your car in reverse. You dread lifting your children, with the fear your neck is going to be extremely painful.
Neck pain relief is a complex issue. You must look outside your neck for answers. Your upper back supports the weight of your head on your shoulders via your neck. If your upper back tires then the muscles in your neck have to work that much harder to work.
Your lower back and pelvis affect your neck also. Think of how you walk, your arms and legs move at the same time. So if there is tightness in your lower back then your upper back and neck will also tighten.
The joints in your neck are smaller, the muscles more refined and hence less able to cope with the physical stresses. Lower back issues can cause neck pain well before you notice any lower back ache.
There is a saying…
“Stress Rides On Your Shoulders“
When you sit at your desk, the pressures of work and home increase, there is global crises, famines and wars and many other stresses that you buy into. All of these place tension on your neck and upper back and lead to pain.
The biggest mistake make in neck pain relief is believing that because you have a sore neck, all the issues come from that one spot in your neck. They don’t.
If you want long lasting neck pain relief, you must look elsewhere. Otherwise you are potentially missing 90% of the causes of your pain.
Don’t make the mistake that so many others have made, that keeps them in pain or dooms them to their older years living in pain. Fix your neck pain permanently, look outside the neck itself and make sure you get long term neck pain relief.

Neck Exercises
21|Sep|2009 1As a Physical Therapist, I have to agree that neck pain isn’t always from the neck. I have found that neck pain associated with posture can come from the back and chest area. I have been trained to evaluate from head to toe and toe to head when treating people.

21|Sep|2009 2It is good to see others are trained well also. This is one thing I try to stress to all my clients, pain is only a signal – just like a fire alarm. Just because the alarm is in one area does not mean the “fire” is in the same spot. Our X-Pain Method teaches you how to remove pain no matter what the cause or the locality.
Thanks for your comments and I wish you well in your practice.
Take care

23|Sep|2009 3I am glad that I read this article because I do get sore neck, back and legs. I figured it was from sitting at my computer and posture but I also know that my back is “out of whack” from carrying our babies on my left side. Ug. No fun. Thankfully, I have not had to see a chiropractor very often for this as it seems manageable enough plus I use my natural Topricin pain cream and a hot pad!! Thanks for the info.

15|Jun|2010 4Over many years, our necks are subjected to repeated stress, fatigue and perhaps minor injury. Some injuries may not cause pain at the time of injury. However, repeated injuries add up, and can eventually result in degeneration of the cervical spine, causing neck pain. Most neck pain can be due to injuries, degenerative changes that occur in the neck, or the most common of today: many hours of ”sitting still” in front of computers or similar monotonous and/or strenuous jobs. The overall condition of the cervical spine usually determines how fast you recover from an injury, and whether your neck pain will become a chronic problem. The use of orthopedic/ergonomic pillows as support and relief during sleep, during a healing process and/or especially in purpose of prevention, can in most cases be of great help and relief for people with these common symptoms.

Pillows will help you rneck feel more comfortable, but you still must deal with the spinal imbalances that cause your pain. If not pain will ease, but will never completely go.
