Why is it that people still believe that neck and back pain are separate issues?

Each joint in your spine is connected to another. Every movement you make is a combined movement of your entire body. When you walk your arms and legs move.

So why do people still accept that neck pain is completely separate from back pain. In fact neck and back pain are completely and totally linked.

To understand this more you need to know a few facts first - nothing boring here, just some quick things you must know.

Your pelvis is like the foundation to a house. If the foundations are strong so is the rest of your spine. If the pelvis (foundation) is out of balance the entire spine will twist and distortion, including your neck.

Every joint in the spine has its’ opposite. The lowest and highest joint move together. The second lowest and second highest also the same. It is called a Lovett Brother mechanism for those wanting a more medical term.

Neck and back pain is not always local. You can get referred pain from trigger points, you can also have overloading of areas as other areas in your spine fail to work correctly.

Your lower back will tolerate 10 times more stressed than your neck or upper back. This is because the lower joints are larger, as are the muscles.

As you can see the neck and lower back are interrelated and interlinked.

If you have neck pain you MUST look at your lower back. If you have lower back pain it is ESSENTIAL to also look at your neck. Have you ever questioned why the back pain relief statistics are so poor?

The latest statistics say only 25% of you in pain now will be pain free in one year. The rest of you will be worse or just the same as you are now. Terrible to think about if you think you are not the luckiest of people.

But the reason is simple…

If you only look at the site of your pain, it is like looking for fires by staring at a fire alarm. Your fire alarm in your house or work place only tells you that there is a fire. When the fire brigade arrives for a fire their first question is not…

“Where’s the alarm?”

There first question is “where is the fire”. The same with neck and back pain. The first question should be “where is the pain coming from”, which is a holistic approach not a segmental approach.

If you want long lasting back pain relief for any neck or lower back pain you must look at your entire spine, including muscles and joints. Neck and back pain is a complex issue, but it can be simply remedied if you make sure all the causes have gone.
