I get many questions on back pain relief daily in my practice, the majority of questions are never asked because of the age old dilemma. “What if I ask a silly question?

Firstly, no question is silly, only some of the answers. Back pain is very common and the questions people have not been answered fully or are in a language that few understand. This is part of a FAQ series of articles to help you understand more about your back pain and what to do about it.

What are some causes of my specific back pain?

The word that is important is the word “specific”. Most people believe that their back pain is unique (which it is for them), but back pain is only ever caused by a few issues. Most of them being minor.

A recent research paper pointed out that an amazing fact. The injury that people say “caused” their back pain is not serious or severe enough to cause any pain at all. Back pain is actually an accumulation of many small traumas over a period of time.

This helps to answer the question …

The causes of your specific back pain both muscular and joint related. It is not the lifting, bending or twisting injuries. These are the last aggravating factor that may trigger your pain. They do not cause it.

The issues that cause your back pain are muscles that are tight or weakened. There are joints not moving correctly and other imbalances in areas such as your pelvis. If the pain is more severe, then there will be inflammation that will also influence your pain also.

The most common causes are the build of muscular and joint tension. Remove these and your back pain relief is almost guaranteed.

Now although your back pain is unique to you, it is still a simple enough process to understand. To remove the causes you need to relax the tight muscles, improve the strength of the weak muscles and get your joints moving better and in balance.

Back pain relief therefore must follow a step-by-step process to remove all the causes. If you only remove some, then you will return to back pain soon. This is the most common mistake people make.

They believe that because pain has eased a little that they do not need to address the other causes.

Even once you have removed the physical causes of your back pain, you still need to address the underlying causes. This includes improving overall strength and fitness, reducing stress and having better overall health.

This doesn’t mean a dramatic change in lifestyles or going on diets. It means helping your body to function better physically, emotionally and generally. Do this and back pain relief is both simple and quick.
