A common cause of back pain is muscle soreness. You go gardening or do housework and then you overdo it, spend too long in the activity and notice either that day or the next, your muscles are sore.

Delayed muscle soreness is common with back pain, but also in other areas such as your legs from exercise or sport.

There are numerous ways that you can help ease the muscle soreness. One of the simplest is to just rest. With time the muscle soreness will ease and you will relieve back pain. However if time is important what other techniques can you try?

Stretching is well documented to help, as is exercise. Yes you can actually warm down from those common daily tasks and the muscle soreness will be less or even non-existent.

Anti-inflammatory medicines or herbs can be used if the pain is a little more severe. Back pain relief at times needs to be aided by using medication or supplements. The delayed muscle soreness usually responds well to other less medicated approaches though.

One of the better techniques which I use, especially from aches and pains from sport, is hot & cold. This is a simple, yet sometimes painful experience. You hop into a cold pool or bath and the colder the better, and then after 3 minutes jump into a hot spa pool/bath. Stay there for 3 minutes and then back into the cold.

You repeat this 3-4 times and you will feel the muscle soreness drain away. You can relieve back pain or any muscle soreness in your body from this.

Although the anecdotal evidence supports this type of therapy, research has yet to say whether or not it works. From personal experience I know it does, so try it if you find you are having muscle soreness.

Back pain relief as always can be aided by many techniques; you still need to remove the causes. You can relieve your back pain, especially if from delayed muscle soreness quickly. Doing this can help prevent back pain occurring.
