I always promised myself that I wouldn’t put down other techniques on my blog or website. For the reason, that it is individual practitioners that are bad, not the entire profession. Being a Chiropractor I know that well, but…

I was going through some answers on Yahoo Answers and some on some other blogs and something struck me quite hard. Others do not live by the same motto.

Now I know Chiropractic as a profession is no saint. I can tell a few stories or more on some very dubious practitioners and their methods. However, what about the other professions…

Medicine for example – misdiagnosis, mistreatment, wrong or botched surgeries, fraud etc etc. Do you therefore never see a medical doctor again because they have made a few mistakes and will obviously continue to do so?

Osteopaths, Physiotherapies and other structural therapies have their good and bad practitioners. Ones that will help and others that will hurt you.

But the list doesn’t stop there…

What about Lawyers, Accountants, Journalists (my pet hate as it is one of these who wrote about back pain that gets my goat), Builders etc.

On the internet you have all types building web sites and blogs on all issue known to man, including back pain. From those who had back pain and found a ”miracle” cure only they know about, to people like myself who treat people on a day to day basis and have decided to teach what they do.

Is anyone right or wrong?

Not particularly.

Does anyone have perfect results, and everyone gets better?

Not particularly, including myself. Sure I’ve had some who didn’t respond as well as I or they had hoped.

But back pain is and always will be a process of a few issues that need correcting. You have joints not moving well, muscles that are tight, others being too weak, imbalances that have resulted and if acute inflammation to deal with. There is also your general and emotional health that is also a factor that needs addressing.

So you now get web sites saying here do this muscle technique and all your problems are gone. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but they won’t be. You may get a small percentage that feels great, but the majority will get little or no relief, or the back pain will return. Why?

You have only addressed at most a third of the problem. Does this mean these sites are bad, or this type of therapy is poor?

No!

They are doing their best to help, misguided best but their best all the same. They may be a journalist who is annoyed at the entire Chiropractic profession because they had a bad experience and trying to right the wrongs. But they themselves are only looking at one aspect. They found something that helped them and now it is the best thing since sliced bread – for some but not all!!! Others will say that their techniques are not that good and find something else better. And others something else…

They may be practitioners of one persuasion that are saying they are the best, but in reality they are like everyone else. Just trying to help you remove your back pain.

So, I urge you to look at every site (including this one) and look at what they offer. Do they cover all aspects of your back pain, structural, general and emotional? If yes then they are there to help. Each will offer different techniques and you need to find out what is best for you. It may be costly at times as this is the internet and a business for most after all. Even those who say this is a donation only are still there to make money. The internet does cost after all.

But please, to all those out there with their own site, therapies or outlooks. Don’t put down a profession because you had a bad experience. Open your eyes to see what all the practitioners offer. I for example am a Chiropractor – a term I like using at times and at times would prefer to be not one.

I use gentle techniques, look at muscular balance (not just tight muscles), look at your general and emotional health and teach you how to look after your self. I do this in my physical practice and through the web site. I look at myself as being a good Chiropractor and I hope you do too.

Let’s just help all those out there with back pain, lower back pain, sciatica, upper back pain or neck pain, to remove and prevent their aches and pains. And get along with each other at the same time.

This is the only time I will rant and rave on this subject (unless there are comments to reply to)

All the best
